Simmering discontent between the Gadkari and Munde factions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to the fore on Wednesday when party workers expressed dissatisfaction over distribution of tickets for the upcoming civic polls.

The parliamentary board of the party, after long deliberations, had declared the list of candidates late on Monday night.
Although majority of the sitting corporators from both factions was given tickets, many hopefuls from both factions had to face rejection.

Notable amongst those who failed to make it to the list was Siddharth Shirole, son of senior corporator Anil Shirole. When asked to comment, Shirole said that his son had not filed his nominations, and he would go with the verdict of the party.

Manjushree Khardekar, wife of senior BJP functionary, Sandeep, who had filed her nomination for panel 36 (Kamla Nehru Park), was also denied a ticket. Khardekar, while speaking to DNA, said, “We will wait for the A and B forms till February 3. If the party does not distribute the forms, we will withdraw our nomination.”

Though dissatisfied partymen seem to be putting up a brave front, many are talking about abstaining from the campaign process. Chances of open rebellion in form of leaders standing as independent candidates have not been ruled out by the party leaders.
