The Pune Rural police have found a large stock of stolen goods, valued at Rs5 lakh, belonging to auto major, Volkswagen India. It was recovered from a scrap dealer on Pune-Alandi Road on the night of June 26.

A night patrol chanced upon the scrap dealer, Jaffar Hasan Mohammad Khan (27), hastily closing his shop around midnight. Upon inquiry and a search of Khan’s shop, the police patrol recovered 341 items belonging to the Volkswagen wiring assembly inside 15 boxes.

Police said that the company was also not aware of the incident until they were informed about it. A first information report was filed on June 27 at the Chakan police station by Sanmit Shinde, the company’s logistics officer.

Five suspects, identified as scrap dealer Jaffar Hasan Mohammad Khan (27) of Dighi, truck driver Ganesh Thombare (25), Transport Corporation of India (TCI) supervisor Dharmendra Singh (29) of Gopalpur, Santosh Nagarikar (32) and Pravin Chaudhari (29) of Seva Logistic Service, were arrested.

Restauranteur booked

The Hinjewadi police on Tuesday registered a complaint against Asha Damodar Shetty, city-based hotelier and owner of Coconut Grove restaurant, for allegedly cheating a sub-contractor to the tune of Rs41 lakh.

The sub-contractor, Santosh Achanna Shetty, filed a complaint after which the police booked Asha under sections pertaining to cheating, criminal intimidation and breach of trust.

According to the complaint, Santosh was awarded contracts to run canteens at Infosys Technologies Ltd (Rs9 lakh), Wipro Technologies (Rs6 lakh) and Tech Mahindra Ltd (Rs5 lakh) in Rajeev Gandhi IT Park in Hinjewadi, but his contract was terminated without any notice between June-December 2008.

The contracts between Santosh and Asha stated that the deposit was refundable even if the contract was terminated midway.

2 sentenced for abduction
District and additional session judge, OP Jaiswal, on Wednesday sentenced two Alephata residents to five years’ rigorous imprisonment for abducting a 23-year-old woman schoolteacher and compelling her to get married with one of them.

The incident took place on February 28, 2008, in the evening near the Vadgaon Anand border when the victim was returning from school after conducting extra lectures. Bhagirath Damu Gadge (35) and Pramod Shivaji Pawar (25) forcefully pushed the victim into a car and drove her to Yeola in Nashik district.
