A written complaint alleging trespassing and theft against Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel by her uncle has been referred by the Deccan Gymkhana police here to its legal department.
The complaint relates to a dispute between Ameesha and her Nashik-based builder-developer uncle, Nalin Rajani Patel and relates to the ownership of a 1,100 sq ft flat at Manali Cooperative Housing Society in the upmarket Prabhat Road locality.
Nalin filed the complaint on November 25 against his niece, alleging that she “trespassed the house, stole valuable articles and fled.” Deccan Gymkhana police inspector-in-charge, Kashinath Umbraje said, “We have received a copy of the application.”
Umbraje said, “We have been requesting Ameesha Patel to come and record her statement. A couple of days ago, we received a letter from Ameesha’s lawyer, stating that she owns a share in the flat. We are consulting our legal department before registering an offence.”
There was no response from Ameesha when repeated calls were made to her by this newspaper.
Speaking to DNA, Nalin said his domestic help in the flat informed him on November 24 that a lady had visited the flat during Diwali on November 24 and after giving her some money (baksheesh), loaded some goods in a tempo and left.
Nalin said he later ascertained that it was Ameesha. He said that although the Deccan Gymkhana police visited the flat, the police did not undertake a panchanama (first listing of evidence and findings) and also refused to file a case of trespass and theft.
“Ameesha is not answering our calls made to her cellphone. We never had any dispute with her and I am shocked with what she has done. On September 11, she had served a legal notice to me, claiming ownership of the flat and demanding the house keys,” he said.
Nalin said he and his brother Sunil own the flat, which was occupied by their mother Sushila (Ameesha’s grandmother) till her death in August. “She executed a bonafide registered gift deed in Sunil’s and my name in 2007,” he said.
