Fans all around the globe have patronised the ‘Little Centurion’ in different ways. And city’s Mayur Jain has found his own master stroke to salute the master blaster Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar’s rare feat of 100 tons.

The book merchant from Raviwar Peth has a record collection of currency notes of Rs10 denomination featuring the date of each and every century that Tendulkar has scored so far.

It all started in 2008, when Jain came across a Rs10 note with a number 301099, the date (October 30, 1999) when Tendulkar scored his first double century (217) in Tests against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. However, it was not an easy job as the 29-year-old wanted to collect the notes signed by a single RBI governor only. But his friends and other currency collectors helped him reach this milestone in four years.

“After the itinerary of the Indian tour is announced, I inform the dates to my friends and my banker who keep looking for the specified notes. It took me almost six months to get the number indicating Sachin’s first international century (140890) against England at Old Trafford. Luckily, I got it from a customer at our shop. However, I found the note symbolising his 100th century in three days.”

But after his idol’s 99th century against South Africa in Nagpur on March 12, 2011, he started collecting the notes featuring all the dates he went on to bat.

“I even have that collection too. But the most special note is 160312, the day Tendulkar scored his 100th ton against Bangladesh in Mirpur,” said the commerce graduate from Pune’s Desai College.

Jain’s dream is to meet the god of cricket and present him the album.

“He will be coming to Pune to play an IPL match against Pune Warriors on May 3. If I could get a chance to meet him even for a few minutes, I would be the happiest person,” he said.
