The Nigdi police on Monday arrested a Chandrabhan Prasad Gupta (40) for allegedly repeatedly raping a 10-year-old for last five months.

Gupta of Taratechawl in Akurdi had brought the minor from Mahiryagaon in Madhya Pradesh on the pretext of providing her a job in Pune. The suspect, who runs a vegetable shop in Akurdi and is the father of six daughters, had given shelter to the victim in his home.

The incident came to light when a police patrol team found the victim, in an unconscious state, hiding near the ward office in Akurdigaon on January 17. The police shifted the minor to the Sassoon General Hospital and she was speechless and under observation till Saturday noon.

Finally, on Saturday night, she broke down and narrated the incident that she was repeatedly raped and silenced with death threats by the suspect.

Cop, 5 others held for kidnap attempt
Gupta was produced before the court of judicial magistrate (first class) on Tuesday and remanded in police custody till February 4.

The Kothrud police station has arrested six suspects, including a police constable, for allegedly assaulting and kidnapping a 75-year-old woman.

Laxman Shekar Pawar (17) of Satyawadi Society in Erandwane lodged a police complaint against Tushar Bhagat (22) of New Laxminagar Vasat in Kothrud, Ravindra Adagale (22) of Deepjyoti Colony in Karvenagar, Swapnil Mohalkar (19) of Gosavivasti, Sagar Pujari (22) of Home Colony in Karvenagar, Prasad Khadve (24) of Shramik Vasat in Karvenagar and police constable Kailash Vishnu Giri of Anantnagar.

All the suspects were arrested under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, 1860. Senior inspector and Kothrud police station incharge Chandrakant Ghodke told DNA, “One of the six suspects is a police constable attached to our police station. The motive behind the crime is property dispute.

“The suspects forcefully entered the house of Pawar, occupied by Laxman, his parent, younger brother and grandmother Rukamibai, and threatened them with weapons. They ransacked the house, broke steel tins, assaulted them, and threatened to kill them.

However, when the suspects tried to kidnap Rukamibai in a Tempo, a police team rescued them.”

Three arrested in molestation cases
Two separate incidents of molestation took place in the city. One of the victims included a Congress corporator.

A 12-year-old girl was molested on Monday by a neighbour under the pretext of providing her ice-cream.

The victim’s mother lodged a case of molestation against Aatish Kacaru Bhosale (24) of Vishrantwadi at Vishrantwadi police station.

According to the police, “The incident took place on Sunday at around 8.30 pm, when the victim was alone at her residence. The suspect went inside her residence and lured her with an offer of ice-cream and took her to his residence and did an objectionable and heinous act. The victim’s mother peeped inside the window and raised an alarm. The suspect was caught red-handed.” He was arrested.

A Congress corporator, 39 years old, was molested at her residence by two suspects who were under the influence of liquor.
The victim lodged a case against Raju Sitaram Gawade (50), a residence of Sitaram Darshan building in Gawade Colony. Both suspects were arrested.

According to the police, “The suspects were under the influence of liquor and approached the victim at her house on Sunday at around 11 pm and started abusing her. As soon as the victim looked outside, the suspects dragged her outside the house and molested her.”

The suspects in both cases were later released on bail.

Man killed in hit-and-run incident
In a hit-and-run case, a motorcyclist was killed by an unidentified vehicle on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Dattatray Eranwar (48) of Aasta Society in Wakad. An onlooker, Laxman Ghate (47) of Sangvi, lodged a complaint with the Sangvi police station.

According to the police, “The unidentified vehicle rammed into the victim’s two-wheeler on the Aundh old bridge in Sangvi and fled. The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought death.”
