CBI arrested a surveyor of The New Assurance Company Limited for alleged involvement in accepting bribe of Rs8,000 from a trader for settling an insurance claim of Rs4.5 lakh.

The Pune unit of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested a surveyor of The New Assurance Company Limited for alleged involvement in accepting bribe of Rs8,000 from a trader for settling an insurance claim of Rs4.5 lakh.
The surveyor has been identified as Sanjeev Vasant Deshpande. Jagdish Ramchandra Wadkar has lodged a complaint against Deshpande.
Deshpande was produced before special judge DR Mahajan for remand hearing, Deshpande was remanded to one-day CBI custody. Special public prosecutors Vivek Saxena and Ayub Pathan informed the court that a detailed interrogation is necessary to investigate his modus operandi.
According to the CBI, the complainant wanted to seek a claim with The New India Assurance Co. Ltd. as his truck (MH 11 AK 7462) had met with an accident. The surveyor in order to submit a favourable report for passing the claim, allegedly demanded Rs10,000 from Wadkar and ultimately agreed for Rs8,000. He was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe on Tuesday.
