The Pune district collector has dismissed 19 sarpanchs and members of gram panchayats in the district for having more than two children after September 2001. This decision was taken by the district collectorate on complaints regarding these members over the last 6 months.
The state government had stipulated that members of local self-government bodies would lose their membership, in case of them having a third child after September 2001.
During elections held for the 160 gram panchayats in the district, many of the winning candidates had allegedly withheld the information of their having a third child after the stipulated deadline.
More than 40 such complaints were received in the last 6 months, hearings for which were held by the district collectorate. Nineteen sarpanchs were found to have allegedly suppressed the information relating to their third child.
The district collectorate recommended the suspension of such sarpanchs to the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Pune zilla parishad and the dismissal orders were served last month.
The dismissed office-bearers are from Indapur-Lasuni, Ambegaon-Ranmaal, Vadgaon Kashimbe, Chaas, Khed-Yenar, Shirur-Pimpalshuti, Pimpar Khed, Jhabhut, Baramati-Karadi, Tekalwadi, Daund-Rodi, Bhor-Warikhurd, Haveli-Bakori, Haveli-Kondhwa, Baramati-Malwadi Late and Daund-Deulgaon gram
panchayats.
