The city crime branch police would investigate the bizarre case of a young, Bangalore-based fitness specialist, Anushree Kundra, who allegedly set her ex-boyfriend Nimesh and his fiancee Juhi Prasad on fire at their Pune flat. The 26-year-old fiancee later died of burn injuries at a Pune hospital.

As the Wanavdi police failed to find any concrete lead in investigation, the senior officers have decided to hand over the case to crime branch police.

Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Rajesh Bansode told DNA, "The case was given to the crime branch two days ago and crime branch unit (IV) police inspector Arun Walture and his team would handle the probe."

Kundra, who went missing after allegedly committing the crime, will be booked in a case of murder.
Nimesh, who hails from Patna, works as a business manager in a finance company in Pune.

According to the police, Kundra had arrived in Pune from Bangalore last month and had gone to Nimesh's flat at New Market Plaza, Wanavdi.

Juhi had also arrived at Nimesh's flat and was staying at Nimesh's flat where the trio gathered to sort out their differences till the small hours of morning.

According to the police, after Nimesh and Juhi went off to sleep, Anushree purchased two litres of petrol from a nearby station, returned to the flat and allegedly used it to set the couple on fire before bolting the door from outside. She then took a waiting autorickshaw and is reported to have left for Mumbai.

The Wanavdi police have been in search of Kundra, a divorcee with a 12-year-old son, and have made three separate trips to Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi.

The police also secured critical evidence of closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage showing Kundra purchasing the fuel from a petrol pump. The dying declaration of Prasad has also been recorded by the police.
