The Pune police have initiated steps to crack down on all illegal godowns and stores in the city stocking explosives. It has warned that cases would be lodged against the owners of such godowns and stores.

The city police’s initiative comes in wake of the recent blast in a residential complex in Nashik in which three persons were killed and seven injured. The blast took place in a basement shop, where explosives meant to make firecrackers were stored illegally.

The state director general of police (DGP), Ajit Parasnis, has ordered his officers across the state to prevent stockpiling of firecrackers illegally.

The police order stated that the local police must conduct mock drills in their jurisdiction in public places such as malls, multiplexes and religious structures. Vigil has been stepped up at bus stands, malls, religious places, railway stations and multiplexes as they are always “soft targets” of subversive elements.
