Pune cop issuing fake registration certificates

The Kondhwa police on Friday arrested a police constable, PN Gogawale (49), for issuing a fake registration certificate and transport certificate by using a police station stamp at the Kondhwa station between 2009 and June 6, 2011.

The police also arrested Baba Anna Birajdar (32) of Kothrud. According to the police, Birajdar, who works as an agent at the Pune regional transport office (RTO), needed the stamp on fake no-objection certificates.

Kondhwa police station assistant inspector VK Jadhav said Gogawale and Birajdar knew each other. When Birajdar visited the police station, Gogawale stamped the fake certificates in return for money.

Defence applies for appeal withdrawal

Taking a U-turn in the Padalvasti slum eviction case, the defence authorities, through their advocate PM Jagtap, on Friday moved an application before the court of assistant sessions judge, RH Mohammed, seeking to withdraw their appeal challenging the stay order on the eviction of slum by the lower court.

The court of joint civil judge (senior division), AN Mare, on April 24 had ordered a stay on the eviction order issued by the army to the residents of Padalvasti slum in Bopodi. The defence authorities had moved the higher court and filed an appeal challenging the court order.

However, advocate Manoj Nayak, representing the Padalvasti slum dwellers, filed an objection before the court and moved an application to call upon the competent authority under Slums Areas (Improvement, Clearance and Redevelopment) Act Maharashtra 1971.  The court fixed July 19 for the final argument and order on the appeal. The stay on eviction of the slum dwellers will continue till July 25.

FTII security officer booked by police

A security officer at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Friday was remanded in police custody till July 12 for allegedly cheating the canteen authorities at the National Cadet Corps (NCC) headquarters on Senapati Bapat Road by forging a fake identity card of ex-serviceman.

The suspect is identified as Faziliyat Bashir Ahmad (43) of FTII staff quarters on Law College Road. According to the prosecution, Ahmad allegedly forged documents like ex-servicemen identity card, two PAN cards with the same number, two identity cards of Central Reserve Police Force, NRI debit card and some photographs in army uniforms.

Arguing for 14-day police custody, assistant public prosecutor AV Ausekar told the court that the suspect used these fake documents to try to get benefits for the army personnel, but the motive is yet uncertain.
