With Bharatiya Janata Party leadership often changing its stance on various issues at various levels, workers of Sangh Parivar organisations in the city are running like headless chickens and everyone has his own mantra.

There are several saffron alliance party rebels in the fray for civic polls who have been counting on votes from people having affinity with Sangh Parivar. Prominent among them are candidates fielded by Pune Janhit Aghadi, especially Ujjwal and Purva Keskar, Anagha Paranjpae Purohit, Dilip Ingale and Sudhir Gawali.

Besides, NCP candidate, Aishwarya Ghaisas, is also expected to eat up large chunk of Sangh Parivar votes. Moreover, since Sangh Parivar has already vouched its support for Anna Hazare’s campaign against corruption, the Gandhian’s supporters contesting the election under the banner of Punekar Nagrik Samiti too are expecting votes from the Parivar.
The sources in the Parivar said that the local leadership of RSS decided earlier last week that they would not object if the Sangh Pariwar organisations decide to support candidates who are not official candidates of the saffron alliance.

When contacted, BJP’s city unit president, Vikas Mathkari, refused to comment about the issue.

With dominating population of upper caste middle-class, Pune has been a stronghold of the Sangh Parivar and its other organisations. Besides, the Peth areas of old city with people having close affinity with the Parivar have dominating presence in Deccan Gymkhana, Erandwane, Sinhagad Road, Satara Road, Karvenagar, Kothrud, Paud Road and Baner-Bavdhan areas.
Although people having affinity towards Sangh Parivar are considered traditional voters of the saffron alliance, the political equations have been changing over the last some days.
