The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has built an ultra-modern school, where students would be given education using e-learning methods.

The leader of opposition and local corporator, Aba Bagul, who has taken the initiative in developing the school in Sahakarnagar area, told the media that the school would follow the pattern of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The Congress leader claimed that it would be the first e-learning municipal school in the country and students would be given education for free.

Built at a cost of about Rs12 crore, the school’s admission process has started and it would be inaugurated on June 13. Named ‘Rajiv Gandhi Academy of e-learning’, he said the school would use only computers to impart education.

The five-storey school building, built on 70,000 square feet, will have 190 computers with each classroom having a large LCD screen.

Bagul said students would be provided milk, breakfast and lunch for free, besides special uniforms. A laundry facility would also be made available and teachers have been given special training.

He said the school’s capacity is 1,200 students and seats for junior KG, senior KG and standard I are full. As there were many applications, admissions were given on the basis of lottery system. Admissions to standard II-VII would open on June 6. He said the school would provide an opportunity of excellent education to students from the economically weaker sections.
