City-based builder Ravi Barate has sought the intervention of the Supreme Court (SC) in the alleged land scam in Yerawada (Survey No 191-A), where builder Atul Chordia's Panchshil Tech Park One and DB Realty's upcoming five-star hotel project are located.

Supriya Sule, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP from Baramati, and her husband, Sadanand, are shareholders in Tech Park One.

Barate has also alleged the involvement of Niranjan Hiranandani, managing director of Hiranandani builders, in this scam.

In April this year, Eknath Khadse, leader of the opposition in the legislative assembly, had raised the matter in the house. He had alleged that then district collector, Shriniwas Patil, had forged revenue papers to hand over 326 acres to the unregistered Shree Mukund Bhavan Trust (SMBT).

The trust subsequently sold the land to Chordia and DB Realty for hefty sums of money. Following the allegations by Khadse, divisional commissioner Dilip Band had conducted an enquiry in May. In his report in June, Band had given a clean chit to the land transfer.

Barate alleged that the original sale deed of the land, based on which the trust had filed its claim, was fraud and it was known to both the district and state administration since 1990. "The then land settlement commissioner, Navin Kumar, had submitted a report to the chief secretary pointing to the lack of any sale deed as claimed by SMBT. Also, in his report, Kumar had frowned upon the district administration decision to opt for an out-of-court settlement," he said.

Based on the documents — which he had procured under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 — Barate claimed that the trust had lied to the SC and their lies were supported by certain sections of the bureaucracy and politicians, headed by the then chief minister Sharad Pawar.

He also alleged that the documents procured by him showed that both, Vinod Goenka of DB Reality and Hiranandani, had attended meetings with government officials to discuss the question of the land as trustees of SMBT.

"Earlier I had levelled the allegation that the total quantum of land scam in Yerawada was to the tune of 326 acres. But, based on the additional papers I have procured, the extent of the scam is a whopping 3,982 acres. I am ready to file a public interest litigation in this matter, but the SC should take cognisance of the scam and order an investigation," Barate said.DB Realty project on Survey No 191-A in Yerawada with the Panchshil Tech One Park building in the background
