Professors press on with CAP boycott

The Centralised Assessment Process (CAP) of Mumbai University is still hanging in the air, making a delay in results imminent. The professors have decided to continue the boycott of CAP after learning that the draft of their demands sent by the government does not include some of the suggestions made by the professors.

Following the last meeting with higher and technical education minister Rajesh Tope, a draft was prepared where several points were mutually agreed upon. However, the secretary of the department Sanjay Kumar later avoided signing the draft which had led to a protest last week.

Tapati Mukhopadhyay, general secretary of the Maharashtra Federation of University College Teachers Union (MFUCTO) said,

"The government sent us a draft on Sunday. But some our suggestions were not mentioned in the draft. There will be another meeting now with the minister to discuss the missing points."

The teachers' demands include regularising teachers who have been exempted from the rule of National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET) required to become a professor, implementing a pay scale as per the sixth pay commission, and clearing arrears of the said pay scale and striking a balance between significant differences between salary patterns of high school and college teachers.
