An inquiry has been ordered against Vasantdada Patil College of Engineering, Chunabhatti for submitting false information to the Shikshan Shulka Samiti in order to increase students’ fees, after a students organisation filed a compaint against it.

The organisation — Dharmarajya Paksha — had filed a complaint with the directorate of technical education (DTE) and the higher and technical education department saying that the college had presented false documents to the Shikshan Shulka Samiti, which decides college fees, stating that it conducts only degree courses.

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) states that there can be only one institute in a single building.

However, Dharmarajya Paksha claims the principal of the college has signed on a false document to certify that there are only engineering degree courses being conducted in the college building. However, three institutes – Padmabhushan Vasantdada Patil Engineering College, Manohar Phalke Polytechnic and Vasantdada Patil Institute of Management Studies – are running simultaneously in the building.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, DP Sawant, minister of state, higher and technical education asked the Samiti to conduct an inquiry and submit a report.

A senior official from the higher and technical education department said, “The minister has forwarded the complaint to the Samiti with his remarks on it and has asked for an inquiry. The college is at fault if it presented false information to increase fees as students will have to bear the additional expenses.”
