Schools with cent percent results at SSC exams will be put under the scanner by the education board to ascertain if they deliberately failed weak students to prevent them from taking the exams, and will be penalised.

This year, students from 19,887 schools appeared for the SSC board examinations, of which 2157 schools scored 100% results, while in 127 schools, all the students failed. In Mumbai, of 3263 schools, 677 got 100% results and 21 schools didn’t have even a single student passing.

According to sources, the board is forming a team of education experts and board officials to analyse results of those schools that achieved a 100% results.

There have been allegations that some of these schools secure 100 percent results by retaining weaker students in standard IX, fearing that they may fail in SSC, spoiling the school’s record. Not only this, they also ask students to appear for the SSC exams as a private student, as per form number 17.

Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), Chariperson, Ujjwaladevi Patil confirmed the board will be tough with such schools. “There have been several complaints from parents as well as NGOs and we will look into it. Any school found guilty of such practices will be penalised,” she said.

“Apart from the schools that don’t have a single student who cleared SSC, there are 1752 schools in the city where the results are below 30 percent. We are formulating plans for such schools so that results are better in coming years,” said RR Bhise, divisional secretary, Mumbai Division.

“Our results have been a 100 percent for the last eight years. We have not failed a weak student deliberately,” said Shaikh Ahmed, principal, Little Flower High school, Andheri.
