Prithviraj Chavan to open music library named after Bhimsen Joshi in Pune

A unique music library with a collection of four lakh songs and an arts complex, built by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PCM) and named after the late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, will be inaugurated on February 10 by Maharashtra chief minister, Prithviraj Chavan.

A unique music library with a collection of four lakh songs and an arts complex, built by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PCM) and named after the late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, will be inaugurated on February 10 by Maharashtra chief minister, Prithviraj Chavan.

Addressing a press meet in the city on Friday, mayor Mohansingh Rajpal announced the inauguration of the cultural complex. Promoter of the project and leader of opposition in the PMC, Aba Bagul, was present on the occasion.

The arts complex named ‘Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Kaladalan’ consists of a mini theatre, music library and an art gallery. It is located in Bagul garden in Sahakarnagar area. “We have planned the inauguration of the art complex on February 10, the birthday of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi as per Hindu calendar,” said Rajpal.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and other dignitaries will be present on the occasion.

The arts complex, with a built up area of about 12,000 square feet, has ground plus two storeys. The music library in the complex has 28 cubicles. Each cubicle has a computer and headphone. Music of various kinds like Marathi, Hindi and English songs, classical, semi-classical and gazals is saved in a server in a nearby room.

Citizens can listen to any type of music while sitting in the cubicle.
Citizens would be required to get a smart card to enjoy music in the cubicles by paying some amount. The card would be time based.

The auditorium has a seating capacity of 80 and special acoustics arrangement have been made. Viewers can get information about the history of Indian classical music, contribution of the city towards classical music and history of the city in the auditorium.

The arts complex will be open to citizens after inauguration from 6 am to 6 pm everyday. A laser show on a water screen formed by huge fountains will be displayed in the arts complex.
