Mumbai: "I have done nothing wrong and have no regrets," said Pravin Mahajan as he entered his Thane home after spending nearly three and a half years behind bars.
Mahajan, who killed his elder brother and senior BJP leader Pramod on April 22, 2006, was convicted by a Mumbai sessions court on December 18, 2007. He was moved to Nashik jail over a year ago. He was released on 14 days' furlough by the deputy inspector-general of prisons, Aurangabad.
On Friday, Pravin's wife Sarangi and their children Vrushali and Kapil went to Nashik to bring him home. Accompanying them was Prasad Phuliwar, Mahajan's brother-in-law. A relaxed Mahajan, dressed in light brown kurta and churidar, walked out in the early afternoon.
Sarangi said, "It is after almost three and a half years that we shall have meals with Pravin." Mahajan said, "Spending time with my wife and children means a lot more to me now."
He, however, insisted he had done nothing wrong by killing his brother. He said why he killed Pramod would never be revealed. About his book My Album, he said, "I have written the truth about my life."
Despite being in jail, Mahajan has been tracking political events. Asked if his brother's absence had hurt the BJP, he said, "Every party has its ups and downs, but the situation in the BJP is still better than it was in 1984."
