The auction sword dangles again on the residents of high-profile Kingston Cooperative Housing Society in Powai. The BMC has decided to send the society, where actor Adesh Bandekar, assembly speaker Babasaheb Kupekar and hockey legend Dhanraj Pillai own government allotted flats, a notice asking it to cough up almost Rs83 lakh immediately to avoid auction proceedings.

Earlier, the BMC had called an auction in March to realise property and sewerage tax dues amounting to Rs1.23crore. It was stayed after the residents petitioned before the municipal commissioner and agreed to pay the amount in instalments. The society paid Rs 40 lakh as first instalment in June, but then petitioned against it in Bombay High Court. The petition, to which BMC was a party, has been dismissed recently.
