Which will come first? The hanging of 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab, petrol prices crossing Rs100 per litre or the completion of the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) rail bridge at Kanjur Marg?

Should the rail bridge be named ‘Adarsh’ so that it gets all the requisite permissions?

These were some of the sarcastic slogans compiled by Mumbaikars during a protest meeting at Powai on October 21.

“I drive from Thane to Powai for work and spend nearly two hours on the road every day. The most painful part of journey is the incomplete JVLR rail bridge near Kanjur Marg,” said Vinod Sharma, a software engineer, who participated in the meeting.
Not just residents, even motorists are upset with the delayed work as they are stuck in traffic at the spot for long hours.

Taking a cue from Kurla residents who set up a monitoring campaign for the delayed Santacruz-Chembur Link Road two weeks ago, citizens have chalked out an innovative protest campaign for the incomplete JVLR involving posters, a walkathon and a street play.

“Around 50 citizens pledged to protest for the betterment of city and to get the bridge ready. We have decided to run an ‘innovative’ campaign to bring the attention of authorities and fellow commuters... this group will demonstrate on the streets with catchy slogans,” Sharma said. The campaign has also gone online with a Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/JVLRBridge.

The World Bank-funded JVLR and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road are crucial east-west connectivity bridges. Both projects are stuck in red tape.

Central Railway spokesperson said they had forwarded the permission for JVLR to the commissioner of railway safety and were awaiting clearance.
