Pimple Saudagar, also referred to as Aundh Annexe, many a times has multiple civic issues that an area like this should practically not be facing.

Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are expanding and one such developing locality is Pimple Saudagar, located midway between Sangvi and Kalewadi Phata. To be more precise midway between Rahatni and Pimple Gurav.

The property rates of Pimple Saudagar range between Rs3,500 and Rs4,000 per square foot. But, as is always seen, even though huge and elegant buildings come up, the level of development in the civic sense is bad, so is the situation here.

It is literally a bumpy ride for residents of Pimple Saudagar.  With the internal roads in a pathetic condition, two-wheeler riders and motorists have to negotiate the potholed roads carefully lest they get injured or damage their vehicles.

Besides, garbage strewn across the area also compounds their woes. The civic authorities make little effort to place adequate number of garbage bins and lift the garbage regularly from the
locality.

An HR professional residing in that locality, Shweta Bhatnagar, wondered why the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is not making any efforts to repair the internal roads.

“If the civic authorities are spending so much on making roads to ensure smooth plying of buses under the bus rapid transit scheme (BRTS), they must also spend some amount to ensure that the internal roads are in proper shape. After all, these roads are used by the common people,” said Bhatnagar.

Echoing similar views, another resident of the locality, Suresh Wadke, said that the quality of repair works on the internal roads is so bad that they don’t last.

Apart from bad internal roads, the residents have to cope with garbage menace and a host of other civic issues. According to Preeti Kalokhe, a housewife, there are very few garbage bins in the locality.

“The quantity of garbage is increasing with the constant rise in population. There are inadequate bins to dispose of the waste. What is more agonising is that the collection of the garbage is erratic, which results in garbage accumulation. The stench becomes unbearable after some time,” she said.

“The garbage menace leads to breeding of mosquitoes and flies in the area,” said Sheetal Gaikwad, an IT professional. She added that there is hardly any chemical spraying in order to prevent breeding of mosquitoes and flies.

According to some residents, water supply is also a problem in the area. “The PCMC has made it compulsory for all the new buildings to install rainwater harvesting systems (RWH) and most of the societies do have it, but there are times when we need more water. And at times the water supply is irregular,” said another resident.

According to some residents, the frequency of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses in the area is not up to the mark. Rachel Joshua, a junior college student, said that the frequency of the buses in the area is so poor that if he misses a bus to college, he has to hire an autorickshaw.

“Travelling by an auto is quite expensive. The PMPML authorities should increase the frequency keeping in mind that the population of the area is constantly growing,” he said.
