The Dharavi police on Monday arrested two Pune-based robbers, who had broken into nine flats in the area at noon.

The police have recovered stolen gold ornaments and electronic goods, valued at Rs6 lakh.

“Residents of Pune’s Dehu Road, Nilesh Kale, 32, and Ameer Shinde, 25, were remanded in police custody until July 1. The police also recovered instruments which they used to break open the locks of the flats,” said Hemant Patil, senior police inspector, of the Dharavi police station.

“The duo targeted flats which were locked in the afternoon. One of them used to keep a watch outside,  while the other would break open the latch of the flat door and steal the valuables. If a neighbour would question the accused waiting outside the door, he would claim he was a plumber and was fixing a water connection,” added Patil.
