In what appears to be the handiwork of a skilled programmer highly disgruntled with the city’s police force, a malicious account on Twitter, a micro-blogging network, has been created in the
name of state director general of police.

The account also carries a link to a defamatory website which displays the Mumbai police logo in its masthead. Though the account and the website were created as early as in February, they are yet to be shut down.

The website, donotdial100.webs.com, targets senior IPS officers in the Maharashtra police. It also defames some politicians and claims to provide proof of underworld links of some senior policemen. It also alleges, in abusive language, that cops are hands in gloves with the builder lobby, and have been employed to do their bidding.

The Twitter account creates an impression that it belongs to state director general of police D Sivanandhan — the ID is ‘dsivanandan’ — and links to the website, whose main page carries the Mumbai police logo.

The site contains pictures of senior IPS officers like KL Prasad, Dr K Venkatesan, along with abusive texts about a few others.
The site owner has created the website with page links named 26/11, events, perpetrators of 26/11, along with twelve others, which contain texts and pictures lashing out at police officers with allegations that they have been protecting underworld dons and criminals. It also claims that these officers did not take any action during the 26/11 attacks.

The only positive mention is about late Tukaram Omble who died while nabbing terrorist Ajmal Kasab.

Additional commissioner of police (crime) Deven Bharti said, “We have learnt about the account created on Twitter, as well as the website. We have informed Twitter about it. We are also trying to trace the person who has created the website and the account.”
