Police search for missing jewellery in murder case

A day after the Kothrud police arrested Shweta Uday Selarka (27) for alleged involvement in the murder of her mother-in-law Shobha, the police are yet to recover the jewellery that went missing from the flat.

A day after the Kothrud police arrested Shweta Uday Selarka (27) for alleged involvement in the murder of her mother-in-law Shobha, the police are yet to recover the jewellery that went missing from the flat.

Shweta had at first claimed that the jewellery was stolen from their flat in Sarita Housing Society, near Lodha petrol pump in Kothrud by the robbers who allegedly killed Shobha.

Deputy commissioner of police (zone I), Dnyaneshwar Phadtare, said Shobha's murder was a pre-planned murder. "To mislead us, Shweta has been pretending that it was the deed of some robbers. But we are looking for the jewellery," he said.

Senior inspector Chandrakant Ghodke, who is investigating the case, told DNA that although Shweta initially claimed that the stolen jewellery was estimated at over Rs1.08 lakh, investigations revealed that except for a gold ring, the rest of the property that went missing included artificial jewellery and a silver coin.

Man booked for cheating
Hari Amrut Salve has been booked by Pimpri police for allegedly posing as president of a co-operative society and cheating a man of Rs3.08 lakh.

Balbhim Kale, a resident of Sant Tukaramnagar lodged a complaint at Pimpri police station against Salve. He was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 for cheating and breach of trust.

According to the police, "The suspect Salve introduced himself as president of Panchashilnagari Co-operative Society to Kale in December 2008 and showed various flats under the scheme. Later, the suspect showed him one BHK flat claiming that the flats belonged to the society and he had the power to sale it. Kale parted with Rs3.08 lakh on February 8 for the flat and later the suspect refused to give the ownership papers."

Father, son arrested
A man and his son were arrested on Saturday by Faraskhana police for allegedly kidnapping a college student for not returning money borrowed from them.

The police said Parmeshwar Murkute (26) and his father Patloba (65), both residents of Bhoir Estate in Thergoan, kidnapped Pravin Modi (24) from the vicinity of the Pune Municipal Corporation building.

According to the police, the duo released Pravin after threatening him of dire consequences if he did not repay the money. The arrests were made after Pravin's mother, Shobha Modi (42), a resident of Kasba Peth, lodged a complaint.

According to the police, "Pravin had borrowed Rs13 lakh from the duo two years ago to invest in  a land at Nanded in Marathwada. Besides, he borrowed Rs 3 lakh from them on a later occasion. The Murkutes whisked Pravin away to recover the money."

On Sunday, the suspects were remanded in judicial custody.
