The Goregaon police are looking for another person in connection with the Angara Pujari murder case, who was keeping watch outside the Monginis shop when the arrested accused, Kabir Husen Noor Islam alias Suleman Sardar, 29, shot Pujari at point blank range at his cake shop on Saturday.

Sardar was caught by the locals when he was trying to flee after killing Pujari and handed over to the police.

“We are questioning Sardar but he is not revealing anything. He is a very hard criminal and still has confessed that one more person was along with him who was keeping watch from outside,” said senior police inspector, Surendra Paithankar of the Goregaon (West) police station. “When the police asked him about the second person, he said that he did not know anything about him,” said Paithankar.

“We are also looking the case from property dispute angles which could be one of the reasons behind the murder. But still motive is not clear,” said Paithankar.

Sardar shot Pujari when he was on cash counter of his Monginis shop. He came first posing as a customer and bought a pastry. He finished and paid and later left. But after some time he came back again and shot Pujari in his throat. Sardar ran from the shop but the hawkers caught him after chasing for about 100 metres.

Pujari has two wives and duo lives separately. He has five sons, among them, one is his younger son Harish Pujari, who was killed in an encounter at Malabar Hill and was alleged to be member of Amar Naik’s gang. All four sons stay separately, two of them reside in Goregaon (West) and one in Khar, while another in Mangalore at his native place.

“Pujari’s one son known as Mayur is involved in 13 theft and some assault cases which are registered at several police stations. We called all Pujari’s sons for statement. All of them came except, Mayur. We came to know that he had fought with his father on several occasions and did not even attend the funeral on Sunday,” said Paithankar. “Pujari had given flats and certain amount to all his sons and told them that he would not give them more from his property,” said police.

Last year in February, the notorious criminal Hemant Pujari had called Pujari and demanded Rs50 lakh. After that he had filed a complaint with the Anti-Extortion Cell of the crime branch. The three gang members of Pujari were arrested later.
