The police have booked three alleged associates of gangster Hemant Pujari under the Maharahstra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
One of them was allegedly involved in the murder of former Pujari gang member Sadanand Goswami, who was shot dead at Nirmal Nagar area in 2008.
Dinanath Gupta and Gangaprasad Chaudhary were picked up from Kurla on February 26, said Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of police, crime. “During the interrogation they revealed that they were working for one Awadesh Sahani,” he said.
The police arrested Sahani from Basti district in Uttar Pradesh on March 11. “Sahani would get youngsters from Uttar Pradesh to join Pujari’s gang. He also arranged for weapons,” said additional commissioner of police, Deven Bharti. He said that MCOCA has been applied against them.
According to police sources, Goswami was an informer
of slain encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar.
