The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ram Jethmalani vents his frustration against the present UPA government at the Centre led by prime minister Manmohan Singh.

“Singh in his second term as the prime minister has failed miserably to live up to the expectations of the people of the nation. His greatest achievement was as the finance minister under the leadership of PV Narasimha Rao, which saw the country switch over to a free market. The latest nuclear deal was also an achievement to be proud of. But that apart, the only things that the country witnessed under him were scams,” Jethmalani told DNA.
Jethmalani accused the politicians of the country of being selfish and lamented on the appalling situation of the political scenario of the country.

“The political scenario of the country is in a sad state. Politics is considered as a business and profession, an easy method of earning money, which indeed is leading the country to the rashes,” he said.

According to him, only those who have established in life a legitimate source of livelihood and are intellectually and morally eligible must be considered to join politics.

“But the irony is that the situation is the exactly opposite and hence people like Rahul Gandhi are being considered to be the next prime minister of the country,” he remarked.

According to Jethmalani, the government should appoint more judges and work in improving the judicial scenario of the nation by providing it with technology and manpower. “We require five times more the number of courts and judges that we have today. If we don’t make these amendments, then verdicts will continue to remain pending and justice will delay consequently,” he said.
Jethmalani felt that suicide bombers and criminals like Ajmal Kasab should not be given death sentence. “You should make such criminals of this stature rot in jail,” he said.
