The citizen data bank that the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) started a year ago has failed and the civic body has terminated the project. The PCMC started the scheme to collect contact details of citizens

This would enable the corporation to contact them for various reasons. However, the information about the scheme did not reach the people and the data bank, which was to hold information of 13 lakh people, contains only 17 names.

The central government’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) had asked the corporation to maintain an online help desk for the citizens through the e-governance scheme.

Information and forms related to birth and death, income tax, no objection certificates and construction department, under 25 heads are available online.

The citizen data bank was easily possible with all these systems in place. The authorities made the facility available on www.pcmcindia.gov.in.

PCMC commissioner, Ashish Sharma, inaugurated the facility a year-and-a-half ago. Take 9 Services, a firm, was given the contract to set up the facility. However, there being only 17 names in the bank after one-and-a-half years, the corporation decided to terminate the project. The authorities have closed the link that was previously available on the PCMC website.
