MUMBAI: A photographer from a city-based tabloid, on duty to capture revelry at the Gateway of India on New Year's eve, clicked pictures of a girl allegedly being harassed by a group of men during celebrations.

The tabloid carried a first person account of the photographer who said that he had seen over 60 persons harassing the girl.

A senior police official from Colaba, under whose jurisdiction the monument falls, denied any complaint was registered against the men.

"We came to know about the incident only through the news report and are in search of the men seen in the photographs. The girl does not seem to be a local, otherwise she would have registered a complaint today," he said.

According to the photographer, 50-odd policemen were present at the site when the girl, who was in tears, was being harassed.

The photographer was clicking from a watchtower erected by police.
