Mumbai: The Shiv Sena's protest against naming Bandra-Worli sea link after Rajeev Gandhi continued on Thursday. On one hand, party chief Bal Thackeray challenged NCP president Sharad Pawar to name his town after the late prime minister, and on the other, the party workers put banners at the entrance of the sea link at Bandra naming it after Swatantraveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

"Will Sharad Pawar name his Katewadi village or constituency Baramati after Rajeev Gandhi?" asked Thackeray in the party mouthpiece Saamna. "He should try to do that, then he would realise the anger of the people," he said.

Pawar had floated the idea to name the sea link after Gandhi because he was born in Mumbai. Thackeray ridiculed Pawar's logic and asked, "Several Bangladeshis are also born in Mumbai every day. Would Pawar name his state after them?"

"The countrymen are wondering if India is the heirloom of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty. Pawar has used the naming of the sea link to appease Sonia Gandhi. Probably he will make a homecoming via the sea link. Despite the humiliating defeat suffered by NCP, Pawar and his rich agent Praful Patel got to retain their portfolios and he has returned the favour by suggesting Rajeev's name for the sea link," said Thackeray.
