The speculations are over. Political parties have finally declared the names of nominated corporators.

Besides the 227 elected corporators, five nominated corporators are on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation committee. All parties will hand over the names of their nominated corporators to the newly elected mayor on Friday.

Last week, the urban development department issued a circular framing guidelines including that the nominated member should either be a white-collared professional or an office-bearer of any NGO working within the BMC jurisdiction.

Though, the nominated corporators do not get voting rights in the proceedings of the House, they are treated on a par with elected corporators and are also allotted corporator’s funds, honorarium, perks and even laptops.

Sources claimed that Shiv Sena has nominated advocate Meraj Shaikh from Parel and Avakash Jadhav, a professor at St Xavier’s College.  Jadhav was Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray’s history teacher.

Congress has declared the name of Parul Mehta, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator from Malad. Mehta had quit the BJP after she was denied a ticket in the last term five years ago.

BJP announced the name of city party general secretary and union leader Ashwin Vyas from Ghatkopar. Vyas was also a functionary of the pharmacist association in the city. He holds several positions in NGOs which makes him fit for the post of nominated corporators.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has nominated Girish Dhanulkar, a shakha pramukh from Dadar who was upset after Sandeep Deshpande was given the ticket for the recent civic polls. Dhanulkar, too, is associated with several NGOs.
