A committee, headed by divisional commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh, will probe into the incident of Santosh Mane’s deadly ride, which left a trail of death and destruction on Wednesday in Pune, said Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan after meeting the injured at Sassoon General Hospital.

Another committee comprising authorities from Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation will look at the technical aspects and loopholes in the MSRTC’s system that led to the incident, he added.

Chavan arrived at the hospital in the evening and met the injured. He said the happening was unfortunate and the committee under the divisional commissioner will submit a detailed report to the government soon. The MSRTC too needed to check technical errors and problems in their system to see that such incidents did not recur, he added.

When told about the complaints of the kin of victims about the lack of facilities at Sassoon General Hospital, he admitted that the CT scan machine at the hospital was not working and the new machine would arrive by March. “The injured are being referred to the nearby KEM Hospital for the scan,’’ he said.

Chavan said the primary medical report of driver Santosh Mane said he was sound. “A detailed check-up  will be carried out. Only then, we can come to some conclusion about his health.’’
