Dismissing the interim anticipatory bail application filed by NCP leader and murder suspect Padamsinh Patil, the Supreme Court told him on Thursday to surrender within a week.
Patil, a key suspect in the Pawanraje Nimbalkar murder, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in June. He is currently out on bail. Patil had moved the apex court after the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court had rejected his application on October 14.
This was after social activist and anti-corruption crusader Kisan 'Anna' Hazare filed a case against Patil, accusing him of offering a contract in 2006 to get him killed.
"No ground is made out for grant of anticipatory bail to the petitioner," the apex court said. "The special leave petition is dismissed accordingly. If the petitioner surrenders within a week from today and applies for regular bail, his prayer shall be considered as expeditiously as possible
