One dead, seven hurt as Holi hooligans strike in Mumbai

The victims complained that red chilli powder was thrown at them. It entered their eyes leading to irritation

In a prelude to Holi, seven people were injured and one died after losing balance while travelling in the local train on central railway between Sion and Kurla on Monday evening, after foriegn substance seemingly red chilli powder thrown by miscreants on the tracks entered their eyes.

The incident happened hours after Mumbai's railway police commissioner took a press meet to claim cops were ready to handle Holi hooligans

"The patients had complained that red chilli powder was thrown on the passengers. It entered their eyes leading to irritation, some people lost their balance and fell out of the train. Some others fell inside," said Dr Rajiv Singh, medical officer at BMC-run Sion Hospital. 

Apart from six injured who fell off train on the tracks, two more persons fell inside the train compartment and sustained injuries. They were treated on Outpatient department basis at BMC-run Kurla Bhabha Hospital in Kurla West.
