A nurse of a private hospital and a car driver were today sent to police custody till December 10 on charges of abetting the murder of an infant born to a rape victim. The duo were produced before judical magistrate first class.
The driver is facing charges of carrying the child from hospital in a car from Pen hospital to Khapoli while nurse Sujata Gharat is charged with giving the infant to two doctors who allegedly killed the baby.
Doctors, Pramodini Paranjpe and Usha Bakare-Malgaonkar, arrested on December 4, were also earlier remanded in police custody.
The victim had become pregnant after being raped about seven months ago, and was admitted to the hospital in Pen where she delivered a premature baby a few days ago, police said adding that the child was dumped into the bio-gas tank of thehospital on December 2.
The incident came to light after the girl lodged a police complaint. The doctors have been booked for murder and kidnapping among other charges, police added.
