The National Security Guards (NSG), the country’s elite force for countering terror and conducting anti-hijack operations, has selected Jogeshwari railway yard in Mumbai to train their commandos in anti-train hijacking training once a month with immediate effect for the next one year. The training site is significant, given the fact that the Mumbai’s railways have already witnessed two major terror attacks, including a serial blasts and the CST attack on CST.

A source said Jogeshwari is one the four places selected across the country, the other being Chennai yard, military siding area in Hyderabad and Kolkata for training and mock drills related to railways and trains.

The ‘’train intervention training’’ will be provided at the yard between Jogeshwari and Goregaon with help of a train that will include one 2-AC, 3AC and sleeper class along with diesel and electric locomotives.

‘’The training will include terror-related training for unforeseen circumstances and will be given once a month till the next year,’’ he added.

The yard at Jogeshwari is quite extensive and has been used by the Western Railway to even park old local trains. However, there will be no physical modifications to the yard, as the place will just be used to conduct mock drills and training.
