Club X is an entertainment service that offers a select group of individuals a chance to link their equipment to a satellite that enables them to access the latest films through exclusive screenings.
Now you don’t need to have contacts in Bollywood to attend private screenings of the latest blockbusters. An elite entertainment service will now give its subscribers the option to catch the first day first show in the comfort of their own homes or at private auditoriums.
“Club X is an entertainment service that offers a select group of individuals a chance to link their equipment to a satellite that enables them to access the latest films through exclusive screenings,” said Shivaji Chatterjee, vice president of Hughes Net Enterprise which is the networking and technology partner in the initiative.
The service is the brainchild of a media and entertainment company, Valuable Group, that has tied up with a few Bollywood and Hollywood producers to enable a new distribution and exhibition method for films.
However, memberships are by invitation only and will be limited to 1000 subscribers in order to retain the exclusivity factor and also to not cause any conflict with the theatre owners.
Currently, there are only 75 subscribers including Sachin Tendulkar, industrialists Yash Birla, and Harsh Goenka, politicians Ashok Chavan and Chhagan Bhujbal, and actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgan.
“Our members get exclusive invitations from producers to watch new releases on high-end state-of-the-art media devices,” said Sanjay Gaikwad, CEO and MD, Valuable Group. Hughes provides broadband satellite services to each member directly. The members need to have a broadband internet plan in order to receive the movie content.
But the service does not come cheap. The sign-up fee is a whopping Rs6 lakh after which the required equipment to beam the movies is installed. The cost of screening a new movie could range between Rs50,000 and Rs1 lakh, depending on the producer.
