More than 30 workers of Sena affiliated Maharashtra Vahtuk Sena (MVS) gathered at the Bandra side of the sea link and flagged banners and shouted slogans against the state government's decision to impose a toll amount to use the sea link. "When he inaugurated the sea link, chief minister Ashok Chavan dedicated it to the people. Then why does he want people to pay a toll," said Uday Dalvi, an MVS member. He added, "We want the toll to be abolished immediately so that every Mumbaikar can use this engineering marvel."

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), too, has opposed the toll. "There is no need to charge a toll," MNS chief Raj Thackeray had said earlier this week.

Sena sources claim that the party has decided to use the sea link to register their varied protests. Sena workers had used the sea link to protest against the recent hike in petrol and diesel.

"We will not allow the government to get away easily with its decision to name the sea link after Rajiv Gandhi. We will gather there occasionally to protest on various issues and will turn the sea link into a place to register protest," a Sena official said.
