After going through hordes of advertisements and ending up buying admission forms from various places in the city, entrepreneur Swapnil Dharmadhikari one fine day, decided to create a centralised set-up where students and parents will get information about educational institutes at a click.

While working with a software company, he came across Samir Kamat who was thinking along similar lines. Hence, they tied up and created ePravesh, a portal which helps parents, students and people from educational fraternity to search through various institutes and apply to the one desired by them. The portal was started in 2011.

“I have often seen that students, especially from rural areas, who want to seek admission in cities, find it difficult to get information about various colleges. Besides financial crunch, the students are also not well informed about the city and its culture,’’ said Swapnil. “Similarly, this time of the year, we also see long queues of parents outside nursery schools,’’ he added.

According to a study conducted by two market research agencies, 48% of the students and parents in the rural belts of the country, use Internet to access educational information. A portal wherein they can complete all pre-admission formalities and get information for the same would be a blessing in disguise, he said.

“Having a website not only saves time, energy and money, but also helps in reducing the administrative work which again helps in paperless work,’’ he said. “It will also help the parents to save on trips to various schools and colleges to check the admission status.’’

“Similarly, they can pay the fee online through credit and debit cards. We have tied up with various schools and colleges of Deccan Education Society (Fergusson College), Progressive Education Society (Modern School/College), North Marathwada University, a few educational institutes from Bangalore, Mumbai and Rajasthan,’’ he said.
