Launches campaign as Varma has failed to release film that’s ready for three years.
In 2006, Lalit Marathe thought that he had finally arrived in Bollywood after a prolonged struggle.
He had just completed his first directorial venture — Shabri — under the tutelage of Ram Gopal Varma, known as he is for launching many a career, including Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpai and Anurag Kashyap. But Marathe’s excitement was as shortlived as some of Varma’s new releases. Now, Marathe has launched a campaign through Facebook, the social networking site, demanding that the movie be released.
The campaign is gathering steam and support is pouring in from all quarters beseeching Varma not to play with Marathe’s career.
According to Marathe, even though his film is ready for release, the producers (Varma and Adlabs) refuse to even acknowledge it, forget planning its release. Marathe’s Facebook posts ask a few pertinent questions about the release of his baby. “I was exasperated. I needed some answers and I couldn’t rest till I got them. Apart from wanting to know why the film is yet to release, I also want to know that when the guys from the Rome Film Festival approached Ramuji for the film, why didn’t he send them to me? Why are they behaving like the film never existed?”
His plea seems to have touched the hearts of hundreds of Facebook account holders who have pledged support to him on his wall. “I am amazed at the support I have received from strangers. It looked like my pain is now being shared by everybody,” said an emotional Marathe.
Varma, however, insists that the film is in the post-production stage. He said,” The film is done. Once we get over the rush of releases we will plan it.”
Marathe said he was tired of these promises. “This has been said since last three years. Why is the bit of post-production that had to be done not done in the last three years?” he said.
No one from Adlabs was available for comment.
