Aspiring producer Karan Kakkar was gearing up to enter gangster Vijay Palande’s murky business that helped politicians allegedly invest their black money in real estate much to give wings to his dreams of starting a production house.

DNA has got access to a few of Kakkar’s BBM texts which he sent to a friend, Saloni Patial, just before he went missing in which he talked about how Simran Sood, a neighbour, was going introduce him Palande, one who she claimed was her brother and who ran a lucrative business of converting black money through realty investments.

Kakkar was quite pleased after the first meeting on March 4, reveal his BBM texts. “Simran Ke bhai se mila. Usne jaan mein jaan daali hai. Let’s see aage kya hota hai (Met Simran’s brother. He has put my mind at rest. Let’s see what happens now),” Kakkar wrote to Saloni at 11.05pm that same day.

At 11.59pm, he sent another BBM text to Patial saying how Palande looked interested in helping him out and gave out what Palande’s business was all about. “Simran ka bhai meri help karna chahta hai. He wants to get me into his business. He manages black money of politicians in real estate.”

According to the police, Kakkar’s morals were swayed by Palande’s ‘lucrative’ business plan because he keen on starting his own production house. “Kakkar knew about Palande’s illegal activities, but he had made up his mind to help him, as he wanted money to fulfil his own dream of making films. His passion made him choose the wrong people who took his own life,” said a senior police officer from the crime branch, on the condition of anonymity.

Palande had promised him Rs3.5 crore, which Kakkar planned to use to start his production house. “Simran’s brother has promised me of Rs3.5 crore. Agar approve ho gaya toh phir main apne paise accumulate karke production house khol sakta hun (If everything goes as planned, I will use that money to start my production house),” wrote Kakkar in his BBM text to Patial at 12.04am, which is supposed to be his last conversation related to Palande. Kakkar went missing the same day.

The police are now trying to find out the name of the politicians that Kakkar referred to. “Our investigations are on and soon, we will come to know what crimes Palande was involved in,” said the crime branch officer.
