Nationalist Congress Party's women's wing today condemned the remarks made by Mumbai BJP president Raj Purohit against Ankita Rane, the girl who had shot the video of a paani-puri vendor allegedly peeing into a jug on his handcart in neighbouring Thane last month.
The footage, aired by some newschannels, led to MNS cadres targeting pani-puri vendors at many places.
Purohit later said at a public meeting that the girl was shameless to have watched a man urinating.
"The remark also led to a dispute between Maharashtrians and North Indians," NCP women's wing's president and MLA Vidyatai Chavan, and Mumbai unit's president Chitra Wagh said in a statement.
"In order to woo a vote bank, Purohit made the remark which has angered women. The BJP leaders, known for making allegations without any evidence and creating a mountain out of a molehill, have kept silent this time," they alleged.
"Women from all over the country are praising Rane's daring, and have stood by her," the statement added.
