Under attack over mismanagement of the Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank (MSCB), NCP has decided to reach out to the people by organising a series of meetings to highlight issues concerning women, youth, minorities, tribals and farmers.
Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said earlier this week that all these public meetings will be held before the zilla parishad, panchayat and municipal corporation elections, scheduled from October onwards.
The party is celebrating its 12th foundation day by organising "Samajik Hakk Parishad", a convention for the backward classes, on June 10.
Pawar said a convention for the youth will be held at Ratnagiri, for minorities at Aurangabad, for Adivasis at Nashik, for women in Nagpur, a labour convention in Thane, and an OBC rally will be held in Amravati.
He reminded the NCP leaders that power in co-operative institutions should not be used for personal profit but they should ensure that the institutions survived. "There is no denying the fact that NCP's base is spread across the grassroots of the co-operative sector," Pawar said.
