Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has only seven officers in the state. This statement, made by the counsel for the central government, DN Salvi, raised a number of eyebrows in the Bombay high court on Thursday.

The revelation was made in a case filed by Provogue Lounge owner Salil Chaturvedi who is seeking action against three police officers who allegedly planted drug contraband in his house a day after his arrest on August 3, 2005. Chaturvedi was subsequently acquitted in the narcotics case. Salvi said that the actual strength of the NCB was 19, however, at the moment there were only seven officers working.
