Displaying a sense of humanity towards child trafficking, a bunch of sex workers from Nashik saved a 14-year-old girl from being sold by her uncle in a red light area of the city on Friday.

After getting information from the sex workers, the police rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. The 14-year-old, a resident of Dindori, told the police that the uncle in question was actually not a relative but an acquaintance from her locality.

On Friday afternoon, the accused, identified as Vijay Dive, lured her with a trip to Vani. He also told her that he would buy her new clothes for the trip. The two then came to Nashik and Dive took her to Thakare road and started negotiating with some brothels. This was witnessed by the sex workers in the area who proceeded to inform Bhadrakali police. The girl and Dive were then brought to the police station.

The minor’s parents were called to Nashik. Her father filed a complaint against the accused for kidnapping and attempting to sell his daughter. The case was transferred to Dindori police station and Dive was booked under IPC section 363 for kidnapping the girl with malafide intentions.

“It was because of timely information from the sex workers that we could save the girl’s life and reunite her with her family”, said an official from Bhadrakali police station.
