The police raided the office of Atishay Infotech at Shanti Park in the Makhmalabad area in Nashik on Friday following a complaint filed with the State Election Commission (SEC) in Mumbai regarding bogus voting cards.

Kanhaiyya Pardeshi, an employee Atishay Infotech, Nashik, filed a complaint with the SEC, stating that director of Atishay Infotech, Vijay Kasbe, was involved in making bogus voting cards. Kasbe, however, stated that he is the official contractor for making the I-cards and the cards found during the raid are original.

According to DCP Sahebrao Patil, after the news of allegations of bogus voting cards started flashing in the electronic media, a team of Panchvati police went to verify. He said that it was not a raid but a verification. The police team was accompanied by officers of the election branch who verified the voting cards found at Kasbe’s office. The officers declared that they were authentic. No case has hence been filed in the matter.

Speaking to DNA collector P Vellarasu stated that as the police undertook the verification work, tehsildars from the election branch were sent to the site for a verification. “The said person is an official contractor for Nashik and Dhule districts and the cards found at his place were authentic,” Vellarasu said.

The complainant meanwhile returned to Nashik and said he would submit proof on Monday.

Following the breaking of the news, defeated candidates from some wards submitted a memorandum to the district collector alleging that bogus voting was done in their wards during polling. They demanded re-polling in Nashik.

On polling day some bogus voters were nabbed by the police. They are now in judicial custody but whether the bogus voters and Friday’s allegations with the SEC are related is not immediately known.

It is also said that the complaint could have been filed following an internal conflict between the two persons concerned.
