Mumbai: Nariman House was brimming with reporters and VIPs on Thursday. The in-house guides-cum-volunteers were trying to outdo each other while narrating the events that had transpired in the building last year. But their versions differed and, unfortunately, were far from what actually happened.

There were about 15 volunteers at the event, a commercial affair, complete with an event management company assigned to handle the media.

spoke to at least six volunteers-cum-guides, trained by committee members of Chabad House, and everyone had his own version of the incident. "People who handle the work of Chabad House briefed us about the incident," said one volunteer. "They explained to us about those killed here, how they were killed, and by whom."

According to the police, bodies were found only on the second and fourth floors of the building. But, one volunteer said the guests were murdered on the third floor. Another said two women, both guests, were murdered on the fourth floor. That, too, was not possible as one of them was Rivka, wife of rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg.

The volunteers did not even know which room belonged to whom. "I think the fourth floor doubled up as the residence of Gavriel," said one unsure volunteer. The fact is that the family used to reside on the fifth floor as the third and fourth floors were for guests. But what took the cake was that one guide did not even know the day the operation ended at Nariman House.
