Murder accused escapes from Sassoon Hospital in Pune

An undertrial, Rohidas Ananta Chorge, 35, facing murder charges, escaped from police custody from the premises of Sassoon General Hospital on Saturday.

An undertrial, Rohidas Ananta Chorge, 35, facing murder charges, escaped from police custody from the premises of Sassoon General Hospital on Saturday. Chorge was arrested by Kothrud police for murdering an estate agent, Sandip Bandal, in 2008.

On Saturday, Chorge was brought to the hospital after he complained of health problems. Sub-inspector Ashok Randive of Bund Garden police station said, “Constable Tirmukh Baradi accompanied Chorge to the hospital. En route Chorge asked to drink water, but fled as soon as he was freed.”

Last year two inmates escaped from Yerawada jail. On August 16, Balasaheb Pawar, 36, of Ahmednagar, who was serving a life term, escaped after breaking the grill of the window. Ravindra Anil Salvi, serving a two-year jail term for abetting a suicide, escaped from jail on October 23.

Fuel station guard fires in air
A 49-year-old security guard at Roshni petrol pump in Koregaon Park, Madhukar Dadasaheb Phadtare, was allegedly beaten up by four youths in the early hours of Sunday after he refused to give them fuel as the station was closed. Phadtare, who later lodged a complaint with the police, said he had to fire four rounds of ammunition in the air from his gun before the youths fled.

The Bund Garden police have arrested a 23-year-old youth, Avinash Kutellu, a resident of Ghorpadi. His three accomplices are still on the run. Senior inspector Sushas Nadgauda of Bund Garden police station said, “Kutellu is a criminal and  also has a case registered against him at the Cantonment police station.”

Youth’s body found

The Chatushringi police have recovered the body of a youth, aged between 25 and 30 years, near the compound wall of the University of Pune on Sunday morning. The man was wearing a grey T-shirt, blue jacket and a black half-pant, and a gold chain and bracelet. Police suspect foul play.
