After monsoon hit the Andaman and Nicobar islands on Wednesday, meteorological officials said rain would reach the Kerala coast on June 1 and Mumbai on June 10.

According to the weather officials, the monsoon usually arrives in the Andaman and Nicobar islands on May 20. Later, it hits the Kerala coast. The three-day delay would not have any impact on monsoon, the officials added.

“The slight delay of the arrival of the monsoon in the Andamans is not likely to affect its arrival in Kerala. The three-day delay is not significant and the seven days plus or minus is also included in it. The monsoon is expected to hit the Kerala coast on June 1,” said Medha Khole, deputy director general meteorology (weather forecast), IMD Pune.

The weather officials said the monsoon will hit the city on June 10.

“As of now, the monsoon will arrive in Mumbai on June 10, on its normal date. But it would be premature to talk about its early arrival or delay. We will get a better idea after the monsoon hits the Kerala coast,” added Khole.

Last month, the IMD had predicted a normal monsoon — this was for the third consecutive year. The timely arrival of monsoon is considered important as it affects the agriculture sector.
