Mumbai woman, who hurled footwear at SC judge, held

A woman who had a non-bailable warrant issued against her by the SC in 2009 was detained at New Delhi’s IGI airport on Monday, and handed over to Mumbai crime branch officers.

Pavitra Murali along with three of her aides — Leila David, Sarita Parikh and Annette Kotian — was wanted for hurling footwear at justice Arijit Pasayat (since retired) in the courtroom during the hearing of a matter relating to the Boss School of Music on March 20, 2009. Murali was returning from Frankfurt in Germany when she was nabbed.

The four were sentenced to three month’s jail. But when Murali and David did not attend the bail hearing in October, the court issued warrants against them and directed the city police to trace them, as they are city residents. “Lookout notices had been issued against Murali, who’s been sent to the Tihar Jail by the court to serve her sentence.
